furman university round 1: first year recap

1/4 of the way done. What?? How is it that I am already done with my freshman year of college? It seems like just yesterday I was anxiously pulling up to Geer Hall to move into my freshman dorm room. As cliche as it sounds, everyone is right when they tell you that college flies by. I feel that my time is limited with only three years left, especially since I know that time will only go by faster. I wanted to dedicate this post to my freshman year- a time of growth, exploration, friendship, and so many memories.

My freshman year was filled with numerous hours in the library, multiple walks around the campus lake, several inside jokes with friends, and one new home. I spent numerous nights having shower parties with some of my hallmates (and now one of my best friends!), several nights complaining about my religion homework, indefinite times ranting about something with my roommate (aka my best bud), and too many sorority shirts to count #sratlife. I have memories of great moments, such as bid day, Tri Delta formal, tailgates, and more. I had some not so good moments, such as not getting accepted into a club I wanted to join, dealing with hall drama, stressing over grades, and fearing things were not going the right way. However, the good moments completely outweigh the bad.
I have come out of this year a transformed person- someone who is happier, bolder, and more confident.

This year was full of milestones- moving away from home, starting college (well this one is obvious but definitely a milestone), joining a sorority, and declaring a major. I fell in love with my campus quickly, and college life became my new favorite thing. It took a bit of time to find my place, but once I did, college was everything and more than I expected it to be. I felt that Furman was my home from the start, and my time here has only solidified that more. First semester I definitely felt more like a deer in headlights navigating my way through the social scene and what college life is all about, but second semester (and joining a sorority) has made me feel more involved on campus and I feel like I know so many people.

I have made some of the most incredible friends, ones I know that I will keep lifelong (aka my bridesmaids- isn't that what every girl wants with her college friends??). I have met some incredible mentors and role models. And I have gained over 100 sisters in Tri Delta that I get to share my college journey with. My newfound friends have made this experience what it is, and I cannot wait to join them again in the fall for round 2.

Here are some of my favorite memories from the year

// first semester //
(check out more from first semester here)

-Solar Eclipse (and Orientation)-

Albeit tiring, orientation was made a million times better with the solar eclipse. I enjoyed it with my summer O roomie (and now one of my best friends!)

-Tailgates-

Even though my friends and I felt completely out of place (tailgating is a little weird when you aren't in Greek life yet at Furman), my friends and I enjoyed dressing up for the games and cheering on the Paladins

-Oh Wonder Concert-

I took one of my friends to a concert in Knoxville for fall break and we had the best time!

-Halloweekend-

A staple of every college student's year, Halloweekend was filled with costumes, dancing, and time spent with friends. I especially loved my Holly Golightly costume on Halloween night.

-Lake Walks-

I will definitely miss the lake walks this summer. I took many with my friends, and these were a great way to de-stress.

// second semester //

-Bid Day-

Hands down one of the best days of the year, Bid Day was made even more incredible because I got a bid from my first choice since the beginning of the year- Tri Delta!

-Function-

My first Tri Delt function was Good Will themed, and my friends and I had a blast dancing the night away in our ugly dresses.

-Initiation-

Being initated as a Tri Delta was so exciting, especially with my big by my side! I've loved growing closer with her and my sorority fam this semester, and I feel so blessed to be a part of this particular fam.

-Trips to Bald Rock-

Throughout the year I took many trips to Bald Rock, a lookout point about 30 minutes from campus. It is a great location to watch the sunset and unwind after a long week.

-Greek Groove-

Each year the sororities and fraternities participate in a dance competition, and I was lucky enough to be a part of Tri Delt's team. We had a blast! Here I am with my Tri Delta sponsor (which you receive prior to getting a Big to help you learn about Tri Delta!)

-Formal-

I love a chance to get dressed up and dance, and my first Tri Delta formal did not disappoint! I had the best time with my friends and cannot wait for more functions in the future.

-My Roommate-

So not a particular memory, but rather just about every memory with my roomie. Love her to death and so glad we shared this time together!
